Environment for R&D set to be improved
SHANGHAI will improve its environment for research and development and adapt to demand of foreign companies as more of them have set up their R&D facilities in the city, said an official with the Shanghai Commission of Commerce yesterday.
“We hope to create a more international environment concerning research and development,” said Zhong Xiaomin, vice chairwoman of the commission, at the Shanghai Foreign R&D Center Forum.
She said the city hopes to make itself a global innovation center.
By the end of September, Shanghai hosts 407 foreign-invested R&D centers, with foreign R&D investment accounting for half of the city’s total input in the sector. There are 40 global R&D centers in Shanghai.
Last year, Shanghai unveiled policies such as cutting red tape and making it easy for foreign R&D professionals to relocate to the city as part of efforts to ease the process for foreign companies to set up their R&D centers.
