Fewer jobs advertised online in Q1
THE number of job vacancies advertised in the first quarter on “major” recruitment websites based on the Chinese mainland fell 0.2 percent year on year, a poll said yesterday.
It was the only one of five Asian regions to record a dip, with Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia all seeing an increase in advertisements in the period, United Kingdom-based human resources firm Robert Walters said.
Though it did not provide absolute figures, it said the worst hit sectors were sales and marketing, where advert numbers fell by 5 and 6 percent, respectively.
There was a 12 percent rise in adverts for accounting and finance jobs, and an 11 percent spike in the merchandising and purchasing jobs, it said.
“There has been some tightening in the job market due to a cautious view towards the economy ... (but) China remains a candidate-short market and there is still promising growth in the services, consumer and IT industries,” said Matthew Bennett, managing director of Robert Walters China.
