Firms' fundraising jumps 56%

CHINESE firms have raised a total of 438.4 billion yuan (US$67.55billion) from the stock markets from January to May, a jump of 56.3 percent from a year ago, according to Wind Information Co.

This is a sharp contrast to a drop of 3.83 percent of the Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks the bigger of the mainland's stock exchanges.

The amount of capital raised from initial public offerings posted an annual decline to 146.4 billion yuan from 185.14 billion yuan in the first five months. A total of 138 firms listed during the 98 trading days of the period, Wind said in a report.

Funds raised from additional share issuing rose sharply to 216.14 billion yuan during the five months from 72.77 billion yuan in the same period in 2010.

Corporate bonds contributed 75.87 billion yuan from January to May, an annual surge of 235 percent, the report said.

Wind expects the total capital raised from the stock markets to surpass 1 trillion yuan again this year, with another 419.5 billion yuan expected to be netted after 167 listed companies revealed plans to issue additional shares.

Forty-nine companies plan to raise 68.08 billion yuan from corporate bonds from June to December.
