High-profile graft found
CORRUPTION of high profile officials, irregularities in the use of the central government budget and violations of project construction regulations were found in the annual report of National Audit Office released yesterday.
Auditors discovered 112 serious law violations and economic crimes last year, involving more than 300 government officials.
Corruption among top decision makers was "a prominent problem," as 43 cases, or 38 percent of all violations, involve high-profile executives.
The Ministry of Railways illegally shortened the time for bids on infrastructure work on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway from five days to 13 hours, reducing opportunities for participation.
