'Invest in Green Future' Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards winners announced

The “Invest in Green Future” Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards Ceremony and Summit was held in Shanghai today (July 27), capping a 3-month campaign to collect best practice cases to promote responsibility and sustainability.

The campaign received altogether 100 cases submitted from 83 companies. Based on the assessment by the judge panel and public votes, 49 cases have been selected as the winners whose experience and practice will be promoted to foster Shanghai’s green development.

Guided by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Commission of Commerce and Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, the event was organized by Shanghai Observer under Jiefang Daily, Shanghai Daily and Eastday.com. It was supported by SynTao, Enterprise Innovation and Development Research Center under Jiefang Daily, Shanghai Daily Multinational Companies Club, Shanghai Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment and Shanghai Association of International Economic and Technological Cooperation. The event received wide attention, with more than 400,000 people voting or engaged in the event through new media platforms.

The winners fall into three categories, namely, “green development”, “shared value” and “responsibility and innovation.” The judge panel is chaired by Zhu Dajian, a professor at Tongji University and director of Tongji’s Institute of Governance of Sustainable Development. Other judges include SynTao’s General Manager Guo Peiyuan, Professor at the Koguan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Yang Li and Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation Yang Ye.

At the summit, government officials and corporate delegates talked about the importance of green development in Shanghai’s 13th Five-Year (2016-20) Plan. A series of speeches and dialogues helped encourage communication between multinational companies, state-owned enterprises and private firms on corporate social responsibility.

At the start of the 13th Five-Year Plan, fruits of the event can serve as guidelines for Shanghai’s green development as well as the city’s bid to become a global innovation center for science and technology. The winners are expected to create green value for others and help the city achieve its target of moving to an innovation-led growth through industrial restructuring and upgrading.
