M&As in health care set to grow
THE value of mergers and acquisitions in China’s health care industry was US$36.2 billion last year, contributing 5 percent of the total M&A value in the country, PricewaterhouseCoopers said yesterday.
The drugmaking sector saw the biggest number of M&A deals at 301 last year, contributing 49 percent of the ovearll M&A deals in the health care industry which also includes pharmaceutical facilities and medical services, PwC said in a report.
Eight M&A deals saw a transaction volume exceeding US$1 billion last year.
PwC expects the M&A deals in the health care sector to hit even higher figures as China’s population ages and creates huge demand for health care services.
“Large pharmaceutical groups .. will likely speed up their merger and acquisition pace,” the report said.
