Mediation prioritized to resolve disputes

MEDIATION will be prioritized as a means to resolve disputes between companies in Shanghai as authorities seek to enhance the city’s commercial environment.

Shanghai’s free trade zone administration and 38 industrial associations and companies yesterday agreed with Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center to use mediation services in a dispute.

Mediation is a common practice in advanced economies and encouraging companies to try mediation can help build a better international commercial environment in Shanghai and the FTZ, said Zhu Min, deputy director of the FTZ administration.

The center is the city’s only and non-profit mediation agency with 32 mediators who are senior lawyers, judges and professors familiar with international and domestic laws. Two of the mediators are foreigners.
