Number of global fairs in Shanghai gains

Shanghai hosted 271 international events among the 793 fairs held in the city last year, the Shanghai Commission of Commerce said.
The number of global fairs rose 3.8 percent and they were held on 8.7 million square meters, up 7 percent from a year earlier.
The 793 fairs were held over 12 million square meters of floor area last year, nearing the goal of 15 million square meters by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan period through 2015.
Shanghai has 12 comprehensive exhibition centers offering 500,000 square meters. By the end of this year, it may boast having the world’s biggest available space for exhibitions at 1 million square meters.
