Seeking shift in fortune
SAMSUNG Electronics, which faced a disaster with the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 smartphone last year, hopes to regain market share with new flagship models and a “phone plus” strategy in China, the company said yesterday. Samsung plans to adopt the “phone plus” strategy in China to develop technologies such as virtual reality, wireless charging and next-generation display panel. The South Korean company unveiled its Galaxy S8 in China this month, its first premium phone after it permanently halted sales of the Galaxy Note 7 in October after a failed recall attempt, which cost Samsung US$5.5 billion in profit and hit its reputation hard.
