Shanghai branch of CSRC set to have new chief

THE Shanghai branch of the China Securities Regulatory Commission will reportedly have a new head this week as the current chief will be moved to the Shanghai Stock Exchange to help in the reform of the bourse.

Zhang Sining, CSRC's director of the Department of Public Offering Supervision of the Growth Enterprise Board, would replace Zhang Ning as head of the regulator's Shanghai branch, the Oriental Morning Post said yesterday, citing unidentified sources.

Zhang Ning, 57 and near retirement, will be appointed Inspector General of the exchange, a new position created to prepare for the exchange's transition from a membership institution to a corporate one, the newspaper said.

A media contact from the exchange yesterday said he "hasn't heard of the change."

The inspection commission under Zhang Ning's leadership will have three to five members. The commission will be responsible to ensure exchange staff comply with rules and monitor the financial situation of the bourse.
