Shanghai market closes flat at midday
SHANGHAI'S key stock index ended almost flat at midday break as losses of brokerages pared gains of pharmaceutical producers.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.06 percent to 3,109.74 points. Turnover stood at 75.8 billion yuan (US$11.1 billion). Losers outnumbered gainers 536 to 325, with 19 stocks unchanged.
The Shenzhen Composite Index which tracks the smaller domestic market was up 0.03 percent to close at 1,085.78 points.
Drug makers advanced after United States President Barack Obama declared the A/H1N1 swine flue a national emergency over the weekend. Shenzhen Neptunnus Bioengineering Co surged 7.8 percent to 14.22 yuan. China National Medicines Corporation jumped 3.5 percent to 19.39 yuan.
Brokerages were on the losing side. Citic Securities Co, the country's biggest listed brokerage, retreated 1 percent to 28.5 yuan. Haitong Securities Co lost 1.33 percent to 14.87 yuan.
