Shanghai shares remain flat amid weak turnover
SHANGHAI'S key stock index remained flat in the morning session amid lackluster investor sentiment.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.03 percent, or 0.92 points, to close at 3,050.37 points. Turnover stood at 38.6 billion yuan (US$5.7 billion) at midday break, compared with 52 billion yuan for yesterday morning. Losers outnumbered gainers 548 to 306 and 37 remained unchanged.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks the smaller domestic market, was up 0.16 percent to close at 1,165.32 points.
Brokerages showed mixed performance as China's securities houses could apply for the margin trading trials starting today. The list of qualified brokerages is expected to be announced as early as next week.
CITIC Securities Co added 1.1 percent to 28.14 yuan. Everbright Securities Co inched up 0.07 percent to 27.7 yuan. Sinolink Securities Co eased 0.2 percent to 20.69 yuan.
Air China, the nation's largest international carrier, lost 0.8 percent to end at 11.55 yuan after saying it plans to raise US$954 million through a private placement to repay debts.
China Southern Airlines Co declined 0.4 percent to 6.92 yuan while China Eastern Airlines Corp gained 0.2 percent to 6.85 yuan.
Elsewhere, China Railway Construction Corp edged up 0.2 percent to 8.46 yuan. The builder of more than half the country's railway network since 1949 said it won rail contracts worth a combined 29.8 billion yuan.
