Shanghai tops LinkedIn index on workforce

SHANGHAI ranks top among all Chinese mainland cities for the high quality of its workforce according to a globalization index, LinkedIn said yesterday.

Shanghai was No. 1 with a score of 99.4, while Beijing was second with 96.9 and Shenzhen came in third with 84.8, based on the level of talent, enterprise and job opportunities, according to LinkedIn, which has more than 30 million users in China.

The effort to integrate into the global industry chain, an investment-friendly business environment and policies to support innovation will make China attractive to overseas talents.

Artificial intelligence, data management and health care are hottest sectors in China, with job opportunities like data analysts, robot developers and health care consultants, said LinkedIn.

China is able to “incubate its own Silicon Valley cities,” said Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, the world’s biggest business social network service provider.

Smaller cities such as Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenyang and Qingdao also gained high scores in the global workforce index, said LinkedIn, without elaboration.
