SHANGHAI shares generally closed flat yesterday. The Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.02 percent to 3,241.74 points.
Shares in China’s base metal producers rallied as futures prices of copper, zinc and nickel rose, Reuters said. Jiangxi Copper Co surged 4.2 percent as the price of the metal headed for its biggest monthly gain in over a decade as global demand is set to improve, Bloomberg News said. Pengxin International Mining Co surged 5.95 percent to 8.91 yuan (US$1.29), and China Molybdenum Luoyang Co gained 3.39 percent to 4.27 yuan.
