Stock market remains unchanged in morning

SHANGHAI'S key stock index remained flat in the morning session as the losses of heavyweights offset advances by consumer-related shares on government's call to boost consumption.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.07 percent, or 2.18 points, to close at 3,193.12 points. Turnover stood at 96.7 billion yuan (US$14.2 billion) at midday break. Gainers outnumbered losers 595 to 267 and 28 stocks remained unchanged.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks the smaller domestic market, added 0.65 percent to close at 1,193.69 points.

PetroChina, the country's biggest oil producer, eased 0.7 percent to 13.37 yuan. Sinopec was down 1 percent to 12.05 yuan.

Bank of China retreated 0.7 percent to 4.09 yuan. Industrial Bank Co slid 2.5 percent to 37.45 yuan and China Merchants Bank Co fell 1.7 percent to 16.99 yuan.

Consumer sector was strong. Anhui Xingma Automobile Co jumped by 10 percent daily cap to 10.69 yuan. Qingdao Aucma Company surged by 10 percent to 7.56 yuan. Beijing Hualian Hypermarket Co gained 4.5 percent to 9.56 yuan.

Environment-friendly companies continued to outperform on the government's pledge to reduce pollution. Zhejiang Feida Environmental Science & Technology Co jumped by 10 percent daily cap to 19.5 yuan and Tianjin Capital Environmental Protection Group Co was up 1.5 percent to 2.77 yuan.
