US debt holding cut

CHINA reduced its holding of US Treasury securities in January after adding US$9.1 billion in the previous month, latest data from the US Treasury Department showed.

China shed its treasuries holding by US$7.3 billion in January, with the total holding down to US$1.051 trillion. Japan, which overtakes China as the largest holder of US treasuries in October, increased its holding by US$11.7 billion to US$1.103 trillion in January. At the end of January, overall foreign holdings of US Treasury securities dropped to US$5.956 trillion from December’s US$6.004 trillion.
