iPhone on sale soon

CHINA Unicom will begin selling iPhones in Chinese mainland from October 30, it announced today.

It will kick off with two models: the iPhone 3G and the latest iPhone, the 3GS, Sina.com reported.

It also announced an "iPhone 24-month contract package" for its users.

Users who take this package and pay two years' cell phone fees in advance get the iPhone for free or pay at most 4,999 yuan (US$735) for an iPhone 3GS with 32GB memory.

The monthly fee of the package ranges from 126 yuan to 886 yuan. But users can get a monthly of refund of between 121 yuan and 333 yuan.

The Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) network now covers 285 cities in the country after 10 months, the report said. China Unicom started commercial use of the 3G network nationwide from September 28.
