Advanced tech is path for the future
DIGITAL factory and smart manufacturing using technologies like cloud computing, virtual reality, 3D display and Big Data were highlighted at the ongoing China International Industrial Fair.
China Telecom, the country’s biggest fixed-line operator, unveiled a manufacturing white paper that features cloud computing, process optimization, private 5G network with high speed and security, and 3D and virtual reality display.
Partnering firms including Siemens, China Telecom’s system helps enterprise clients, such as TCL and car-engine maker Weichai Power, improve process on design, manufacture, logistics, marketing and services.
China Telecom has provided 40 Shanghai firms with a local service node platform, and this will expand to 100 firms by the end of this year — part of the city’s plan to encourage innovation and upgrade economic structure with smart manufacturing.
Germany-based Siemens displayed its Digital Enterprise service, which helps various Chinese industrial partners optimize production systems.
Exhibitors, including Siemens, China Mobile and China Telecom, used 3D display and VR to showcase industrial applications. For example, Siemens used VR to let fair visitors experience a Chengdu factory, its first digital factory outside Germany. China Mobile used VR and 4G technologies to show real-time traffic and activities of various halls of the fair.
A tie-up between Germany’s Industry 4.0 and the “Made in China 2025” strategy saw Siemens sign partnerships with Baosteel, China Shipbuilding Industry Corp, China Electronics Corp and China Aerospace Science & Technology Corp to get ready for intelligent manufacturing in the metal, shipbuilding, electronics and aerospace industries.
