Alibaba, Tencent aid virus tracking
THE Chinese government has enlisted the help of Alibaba and Tencent to expand color-based systems that track coronavirus carriers.
An official Health QR Code was launched yesterday in Shanghai to strengthen the healthcare management of virus carriers.
The QR code is available on the Healthcare Cloud and Suishenban apps, as well as WeChat and Alipay, which also provide temperature tracking and self-diagnosis.
After verifying residents’ healthcare information, three different QR code colors appear — green (or black-and-white) for healthy people, red for confirmed or suspected cases and yellow for those from key infection areas under quarantine.
Administrators at offices, residential areas and other public places can scan the codes to check the conditions of people entering or leaving the premises.
Last week, Alipay, in collaboration with the government, released a mechanism that assigns a colored QR code representing the health of residents in Hangzhou.
Users fill out an online form reporting their ID number, whether they have traveled outside Hangzhou recently, and any symptoms they have that may be indicative of an illness, such as fever or heavy cough. After completing the questionnaire, users receive a color-based QR code on their phones with their medical status. Those with a red code are instructed to remain quarantined for 14 days and check in regularly via DingTalk, a workplace chat app also run by Alibaba.
Users with a yellow code are instructed to stay inside for seven days, while users with a green code may travel freely.
WeChat developer Tencent announced a similar QR-code based tracking feature in Shenzhen on Saturday, in collaboration with a division of China’s National Development and Reform Council.
