Alibaba clamps down on staff corruption

Alibaba Group said the former general manager of its daily deals website Juhuasuan has been arrested on bribery charges.

Yan Limin, sacked in March together with three other employees for misconduct, has been held by police for taking bribes and the case is still under investigation, Hangzhou-based e-commerce company said in a statement today.

Alibaba's anti-corruption department has been working with Hangzhou police in the investigation. Earlier nine vendors on its Taobao and Tmall online markets were closed down and handed over to police on bribery charges.

In the first half this year, Taobao's anti-corruption unit found 28 employees were involved in malpractices and seven of them were under criminal investigation.

Early this month, Taobao appointed its former secretary-general Shao Xiaofeng as chief risk officer to step up risk control and strengthen internal anti-corruption scrutiny.
