Alibaba seeking innovators at festival
ALIBABA showed off its virtual reality shopping technology “Buy+,” for the first time at its Taobao Maker Festival in Shanghai yesterday as it seeks to woo innovators and practitioners in the creative industry.
“Taobao Maker Festival aims to become a destination for innovators, entrepreneurs and creative talents to showcase and experiment among a community of 423 million Chinese consumers on our China retail marketplaces,” said Alibaba CEO Daniel Zhang.
Visitors to the festival can put on a helmet and visit a virtual shopping center to select products they desire. Unfortunately, the VR device is not available publicly yet.
“Taobao Maker Festival hopes to inspire young makers to innovate and reach the world through Taobao,” said Chris Tung, chief marketing officer of Alibaba Group.
