Amazon and China Mobile seal Kindle deal
AMAZON and China Mobile yesterday announced a new partnership in digital reading, including content sharing and kicking off a co-branded Kindle.
The new Kindle X Migu E-reader, features 460,000 Kindle e-books from the Kindle Store and more than 400,000 online titles from Migu, China Mobile’s online literature platform.
Prices start at 658 yuan (US$96). The deal aims to “unlock the passion of Chinese readers,” the companies said.
China is one of the world’s fastest growing markets for Kindles and e-books, with double-digit annual growth, said Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon Devices.
China Mobile has more than 500 million digital reader users with Migu. The deal with Kindle will cater to a booming market expected to grow more than 20 percent annually, said China Mobile’s Vice President Sha Yuejia.
