Apple China to replace some iPhone 6s batteries for free
APPLE has started to replace batteries of some problem iPhone 6 devices which were produced in September and October, 2015, according to the company’s statement released today.
“Apple has confirmed that a few iPhone 6 devices might have unexpectedly shutting down problems,” said the statement posted on the company’s Chinese website. “This is not a safety problem, and only involves phones with certain serial numbers, which were produced between September and October, 2015.”
The company said customers holding the problem phones can go to any Apple store or authorized service provider to have the serial number of the phone checked before getting the battery changed for free.
Some iPhone users around the country reported the problem of phones unexpectedly turning off and could not be turned back on despite battery levels higher than 50 percent, or when the phone is being plugged in for continuous charging. Shanghai Consumers Association required Apple to hold investigation into the complaints last week, and the company said the cause of the malfunction could only be confirmed after the phones are sent to Apple’s US headquarters for tests.
In today’s statement, Apple said customers should fix other damages to the problem phone first, for example a broken screen, before sending it for battery replacement. Also, problem phone owners who had already paid to have the battery changed may get a refund after contacting the company.
