Apple wants to become 'Apple of the eye of Shanghai'

APPLE grows with Shanghai, and wants to become “Apple of the eye of Shanghai,” Apple Inc’s Chief Executive Tim Cook said today in the city.

Shanghai Party Chief Han Zheng met with Cook during Cook’s sixth visit to China as head of the world’s technology giant.

Han said Apple has an impressive history of innovation and Shanghai is all out to achieve its goal of becoming an innovative city with global influence. Han welcome the US company’s further development in the city.

Cook said the company grew with the city when it set up its footprint in Shanghai since 2001. He said he hopes Apple will become “Apple of the eye of Shanghai.” He vowed that the company, while continuing its commitment to research and development, will spare no efforts to become a responsible corporate citizen with more focus on environmental protection and sustainable growth and be a role model in the sector.

Also in town, Cook visited the Apple Store in Nanjing Road E. today and was said to meet Chinese partner China Telecom.

He drew 540,000 fans in China through a new account Weibo account opened on Tuesday.
