Apple's polished showplace
The new Apple Store in Shanghai's Pudong New Area which boasts a first in-store workshop room - a unique feature among Apple's stores globally - as well as a glass cylinder design is expected to cause a frenzy among fans when it opens tomorrow.
Although there will be many Apple models in the store, its latest products such as the iPhone 4 and iPad will not be available, Shanghai Daily learned during a media tour of the outlet located at the foot of the International Financial Center in Lujiazui. The store features a 40-foot glass cylinder which resembles its flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York.
The 1,500-square-meter store will have 80 Mac computers, 100 iPods and 60 iPhones for customers to experience hands-on. They can also get free tips from Personal Shoppers who will answer technical questions. Local companies can register and visit the Briefing Room, unique among all 295 Apple stores globally, for free business workshops or to find right technologies and applications to meet their business needs.
"The Apple Store Pudong will be the ultimate place for the people of Shanghai to shop, learn and be inspired," said Ron Johnson, Apple's senior vice president of retail.
He said Apple plans to open a total of 25 stores in China by 2012, including Shanghai, Hong Kong and other cities, without elaborating.
Customers can buy the iPhone 3GS at the Shanghai store without being tied to any packages with China Unicom, Apple's partner for the phone in China.
