Baidu enters AI field

CHINA’S search engine giant Baidu showed off its voice recognition, graphics recognition and consumer profiling expertise in artificial intelligence at the Baidu World Conference in Beijing yesterday.

Baidu set up an open platform for deep learning research tools and one for its artificial intelligence portal so that a wide range of industries will be able to use them to enhance efficiency, Chief Scientist Andrew Ng said.

Jen Hsun Huang, the co-founder and CEO of Nvidia, a graphics processing developer, said at the conference the firm will partner Baidu to build a comprehensive autonomous driving platform that allows Baidu to get a self-driving vehicle on the road.

In a keynote speech, Robin Li, chairman and CEO of Baidu, said that most of these solutions would be available for our industry partners so that “ordinary people can access these cutting edge technologies.”
