BesTV COO dies at 39 in Shanghai

Shanghai Media Group's new media company BesTV COO Wu Zheng died of a heart attack Saturday night in Shanghai. He was 39.

He is the third person in China's information technology industry who died in their prime in less than two weeks, sina.com reported. Their deaths have raised concerns among China's IT professionals.

Wu was pronounced dead at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital at 9:58pm Saturday after he suffered a heart attack at a local swimming pool.

Established in November 2005 as a subsidiary of SMG, BesTV is the first IPTV company on the Chinese mainland. Prior to joining BesTV, Wu was editor-in-chief of ifeng.com, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Phoenix TV.

A week ago, Huang Xiaojia, COO of Beijing-based UFIDA Seeyon Software Technology Co Ltd, died in a drowning accident at a seaside resort in Hebei Province.

On June 27, Jiang Shangzhou, 64-year-old chairman of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, died of cancer. Jiang was an independent non-executive director of the Shanghai-based semiconductor foundry, a member of its audit committee and an authorized representative of the company, according to a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
