Chasing the ‘silver hairs’
SHANGHAI is set to lead information and technology development for the increasingly lucrative “silver hairs,” local officials and IT companies told a forum of the Shanghai Digital Information Festival yesterday.
The IT developments and smartphone apps will offer over-60s services covering healthcare, transport, tourism and entertainment .
By 2016, Shanghai had more than 436 million registered residents aged over 60 — one-third of all registered residents.
The figure will hit 5 million next year and 5.4 million by 2020, said the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
“Shanghai has a huge base of aged people and also an advanced IT infrastructure,” said commission vice chairman Fu Xinhua. “The city will lead the development of the silver hair economy nationwide.”
