China Telecom eyes 100 cities for 4G

China Telecom will launch 4G services in 100 cities nationwide next week, the country’s No. 3 mobile carrier said yesterday.

The telco will offer users 4G data packages from 70 yuan (US$11.54) for 1 gigabytes of data traffic a month to 280 yuan for 10GB, similar to that of China Mobile whose 4G services have been available for several months.

Unlike China Mobile, China Telecom will also offer data services costing 300 yuan for 6GB within six months and 600 yuan for 12GB for a year. Each megabyte data consumed, except those bundled in data packages, will cost users 0.30 yuan.

In Shanghai, users can pre-order 4G data services in eight China Telecom outlets including those on Caoxi Road in Xujiahui and Xindong Road in Xinzhuang. They can pick up related products in the outlets next Friday.

But there are no details on the telco’s 4G phone debut.
