Chinese brands lift smartphone sales in Q4
CHINA’S smartphone sales in the fourth quarter grew 8 percent year on year on strong performance by domestic brands, which ousted Samsung from the top-five ranking, as well as China’s online shopping spree on November 11, research firm IDC said in a report yesterday.
Consumers bought 117.3 million smartphones in China in the quarter, with the 8 percent annual growth higher than the 3 percent rise for 2015, International Data Corp said.
The traditional peak shopping season and China’s annual Singles Day online shopping spree in November also boosted sales in the quarter, analysts said.
Samsung was kicked out of the ranking as the top-three firms were Huawei with a 17.9 percent market share, followed by Apple’s 17.1 percent and Xiaomi’s 16.9 percent in the quarter, IDC said.
In 2015, Xiaomi led the market with a 15 percent share, followed by Huawei’s 14.5 percent, Apple’s 13.4 percent, Oppo’s 8.1 percent and Vivo’s 8.1 percent, IDC said.
