Ecosystem in the making

YOUKU Tudou will integrate with social network Weibo and UC mobile browser to form an ecosystem covering at least 600 million users that will play a key node in Alibaba’s digital entertainment system, the country’s leading online video firm said yesterday.
The three firms, all controlled or invested by Alibaba, will share user data and integrate their accounts and services online. The ecosystem will embrace Alibaba’s digital entertainment system covering video, social, browser, mobile marketing, music and sports.
Youku Tudou also plans to invest heavily to support independent video producing music, entertainment, travel and music under its strategy to invest 10 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion) over three years until 2018.
