Ericsson details the future of high-tech
A sharing economy, family-used robots and mind sharing via smart devices are expected to be among hot consumer trends next year, Ericsson, the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment maker, said in a report yesterday in Shanghai.
“The annual consumer trend report represents consumer demand in the high-tech industry and its long-term vision,” said Xu Xiaoli, head of Ericsson’s consumer research lab in northeast Asia.
Three quarters of smartphone owners are keen on the sharing economy, covering cars and apartments based on applications like Uber and Airbnb.
The report also found that smartphone owners said domestic robots are widely expected and they can teach the owners to cook healthier meals, give advice on what to eat and help them move around at home.
New means of communication will offer us even more ways to stay close to our friends and family. Over a third of consumers are interested in using a smartwatch that conveys touch gestures or their pulse to others. More than 40 percent of smartphone users would like to use a wearable device to communicate with others directly through thoughts.
Over two-thirds believe this form of communication will be common by 2020, according to Ericsson’s research, which covers 100,000 people in 15 major cities around the world.
