Eye-catching tech products on display

ATTENTION-GRABBING technological products, including mobility, 3D and high-speed storage devices were under the spotlight at a new media and broadcasting equipment exhibition yesterday that was part of the 16th Shanghai TV Festival.

Exhibitors, including Sony, Hitachi and Dayang, displayed eye-catching products in TV technology, like 3D video cameras with two lenses and mobile high-definition news gathering systems, Shanghai Daily learned at the International New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market Exhibition which opened yesterday at Shanghai Exhibition Center. It ends tomorrow.

Panasonic China displayed the world's first professional quality full HD and 3D camcorder. The device features two lenses and two memory cards, which can record 3D content.

"It's a broadcast-quality 3D camcorder for TV journalists, document film directors and personal users," said a Panasonic employee at its booth, who revealed the devices will be available in September.

Traditionally people have to use at least two camcorders to shoot 3D content. The new device provides high mobility for 3D content shooting, industry officials said.

A new mobility choice for TV journalists is TVU Networks "3G News Pack."

The United States-based firm displayed a backpack for live broadcast-quality mobile news gathering system at the event. The TVUPack supports up to HD quality from a backpack. The device has slots for 3G cards and Wi-Fi.

"We are negotiating with Chinese TV stations to adopt the new system," said Elaine Gu, vice president of TVU, whose products are used by ABC, Foxnews and Star TV.

Hitachi displayed a high-speed storage disk for HD content, which can be transferred at a speed of up to 3 gigabits per second via special designed slots, 50 times faster than USB connection.

The HD's popularity has lifted demand for high-speed storage products, said Zhang Yang, Hitachi's associate senior researcher.
