Gamers likely to rise 4.5% as VR expands
THE number of Chinese game players, already 1.7 times the entire US population, is set to grow 4.5 percent this year amid the popularity of virtual reality games and China will lead in VR development, US-based International Data Corp said on Monday.
“Given the huge size and potential of the China gaming market, China is likely to take the lead for VR systems in coming years,” said Neo Zheng, researcher at IDC China.
Top VR device vendors are expanding in China whose market revenue totaled 140.7 billion yuan (US$ 21.1 billion) in 2015.
“China will become the global center of VR development in the long term,” said Alvin Wang Graylin, president of VR at HTC China.
In 2015, China’s population of 530 million gamers was 1.7 times the US population. The number will grow by 4.5 percent in 2016, said IDC.
Sony Corp will debut its long-awaited PlayStation VR devices and over 23 VR games in China in October.
