Growth seen in logistics income
HIGH technologies including cloud computing and goods tracking will be widely used in the booming cross-border e-commerce sector, especially in logistics sector, industry officials said yesterday.
The cross-border e-commerce is fueled by the surging demand, such as overseas distribution of Chinese export firms and domestic consumers looking for affordable exported goods.
With the next five years, the logistics service revenue for cross-border will hit 200 billion yuan (US$31.3 billion), according to Jiang Ming, analyst of Essences Securities.
"Both national policies and economy environment support China to develop cross-border e-commerce," said Jiang. "The key point is the process with ideal speed and cost."
Jiang's opinion was echoed by Daniel Zhang, co-founder of WallTech Information Co, a Shanghai-based startup offering services to logistic firms such as cloud computing and goods tracking system.
Through partnership with overseas service providers like Canada Post, WallTech offers clients speedy and trackable international express delivery services for cross-board e-commerce, much cheaper compared with traditional models depending on China Post or UPS.
With a population of only 35 million, Canada has become one of the world’s top five destinations of cross-border e-commerce shopping. About 30 percent of Canadians expressed willingness to do more online purchases if more delivery options were provided, according to Misko Kancko, the director of Global Strategic Development of Canada Post.
The logistics chain for cross-border e-commerce is terribly long, it is near impossible for a single logistics company to handle all the tasks along the chain. Therefore, it requires high technologies and global cooperation, industry officials said.
