HP signs deal with Shanghai government
SHANGHAI government and Hewlett-Packard Development Co signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday that may increase the technology giant's investment in the city.
HP said it intends to expand its manufacturing base in Shanghai, consolidate existing sites into one multi-purpose campus and establish Shanghai as a China headquarters for HP's Personal Systems Group.
The company promised to collaborate with the Shanghai government to apply technology to tackle complex infrastructure, energy and health care transformations.
"Shanghai will be an important part of HP's next phase of growth and innovation in China," said Leo Apotheker, HP's president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to expanding our close partnership with this city."
HP opened a sales office in Shanghai in 1985. It then expanded operations to six sites.
The memorandum is a non-binding agreement.
