High speed broadband coming

CHINA Telecom hopes to offer broadband services with higher speed with the help of cloud computing and other value-added services, the country’s biggest fixed-line phone operator said yesterday.

More than 5 million Shanghai families use China Telecom’s broadband services, which offer average bandwidth of 32 megabytes per second (Mbps) — double from the level from a year ago, according to Shanghai Telecom.

“The next step for us is to offer high-quality broadband network and services to consumers in Shanghai,” said He Jianmin, vice general manager of Shanghai Telecom.

Shanghai Telecom established a broadband user club yesterday to offer users new services like Q&A on WeChat, video content and offline computer and network doctor services. It has already started construction of smart communities with high-speed network.
