High-tech products take center stage

A WIRELESS system able to warn people before jaywalking, an air cleaner system for subway stations and specially designed handsets for students - these are some of the high-tech products or services that will be on show during the 2012 China International Industry Fair.
The latest developments in automation, electrical systems and industrial robots will be shown during the fair, city officials said yesterday.
Robots will be one of the main highlights during the five-day fair, which opens on November 6. Nearly 60 companies from around the world will showcase robots, including the smallest robot made by ABB and domestically developed robots.
An air cleaner system made by Shanghai Tianyue Development Co are now installed in 10 Shanghai Metro stations for tests. The system will be gradually installed in all stations in the city, according to Wang Lingling, Tianyue's general manager.
"Metro stations are often full of air pollution and bacteria, which can harm the health of thousands of passengers every day," Wang said.
After the system was installed in Xujiahui Station, pollution and bacteria levels dropped 60 percent, the company said.
Shanghai Super Star Industrial Development Co designed a system that detects people when jaywalking at intersections. The system has been installed at nine intersections in the Pudong New Area.
It uses a warning voice when people break traffic rules. A video and related messages will be transferred to traffic police departments.
Meanwhile, a student handset that can report a user's location will also be on display.
The price of the model is about 300 yuan (US$47.6), although it may drop further if the maker, AWIT, can secure a deal with carriers in the future, according to Chen Lanfei, the company's marketing manager.
