Huawei, Leica tie-up

HUAWEI Technologies, China’s biggest smartphone maker, yesterday said it was establishing a joint lab with Leica on new optical systems, computational imaging, virtual reality and augmented reality. Ren Zhengfei, chief executive of Huawei, and Andreas Kaufmann, Leica chairman, signed the agreement on the establishment of the lab.
“In the future, over 90 percent of data traffic will be images and videos,” Ren said. The new Max Berek Innovation Lab is located at Leica’s global headquarters in Germany.
