Huawei eyes top spot in 3 years
HUAWEI Technologies Co aims to tap its new Honor brand, core technologies and patents to take the top spot in China’s smartphone market within three years, China’s biggest telecom equipment maker said yesterday.
Huawei aims to sell 100 million smartphones in 2015, up from 80 million units this year, said Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei’s consumer business group.
“The new Internet brand Honor and high-end Huawei models priced 3,000 to 4,000 yuan (US$491 to US$655) will become spot lights in 2015,” Yu said.
Shenzhen-based Huawei sold 20 million Honor smartphones, which debuted a year ago targeting young consumers and selling only on the Internet, and chalked up a US$3 billion revenue, said Jeff Liu, president of the Honor business.
Huawei also launched new products including Honor 6 Plus, which has a 5.5-inch screen and an enhanced camera, costing from 1,999 yuan.
