Huawei to beat Apple in sales in 2019
HUAWEI Technologies will surpass Apple Inc to become the world’s No. 2 smartphone vendor by sales next year amid booming domestic sales and rapidly-growing overseas income, the company said yesterday in Beijing.
Huawei expects sales of 200 million units this year, bringing the company close to Apple, the world’s No. 2 by sales. In 2017, Huawei’s global sales hit 153 million units. Huawei’s market share hit 23 percent in China by 2017, and is set to rise to 30 percent this year and 40 percent in the future, said Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s president of consumer business, at a conference in Beijing.
“We will stand ahead of Apple and consolidate second position next year,” Yu said.
Huawei also gained from growth in overseas revenue in Spain, Italy and Poland.
Also yesterday, Huawei debuted a new graphic optimization technology GPU Turbo to improve game and video performance by up to 60 percent, giving a boost to development of augmented reality, virtual reality, and 3D. The technology is used in the new Honor Play phone, released yesterday, and priced at 1,999 yuan (US$317).
Huawei intends to adopt the technology in its Mate 10 and P20 by July.
