HUAWEI Technologies, China’s biggest telecommunications equipment and smartphone maker, will establish a new research and development center in Shanghai, the company said yesterday.

Huawei signed an agreement with the city government to create a strategic partnership to quicken Shanghai’s technological innovation and smart city development. The partnership covers software and information services, Internet of Things, vehicle-to-vehicle connection, industrial Internet and smart city sectors, both parties said.

Huawei will invest heavily to build a new research center in Qingpu District. The firm has already set up its global wireless product research headquarters in Zhangjiang in the Pudong New Area.
