Internet live streaming market sizes up
CHINA'S Internet live streaming market size is expected to more than double this year to 43 billion yuan (US$6.2 billion) thanks to the booming of fans economy and Internet celebrities, according to a latest joint research by Internet consultancy iResearch and Weibo.
By the end of May, the total number of followers of Internet celebrities on Weibo jumped 20 percent from a year ago to 465 million.
As many as 61 percent of the fans community are male users and about 54 percent of them are from lower tier cities, according to the report.
Internet celebrities are also increasingly relying on multi-channel network, or small scale talent agencies to support their video production, according to the report.
Multi-channel networks provide marketing and promotional services for Internet celebrities and shares commissions from their advertising or sponsor income.
The transaction size of Internet celebrity sponsored merchandise in the second quarter more than doubled from a year ago, with daily transaction size at about 55 million yuan on average, and key sectors include baby and maternity items, food and fashion, said Can Zenghui, vice president of Weibo.
Sina’s microblogging site Weibo will step up collaboration with Internet celebrity agencies to support their growth with Internet celebrities continues to plays a significant role in the booming fans economy, he noted.
