Investment of US$700b in telecom
ADVANCED technologies like drones and virtual reality will act as catalyst to fuel investment of US$700 billion in global telecommunications over the next four years, industry association GSMA said yesterday.
The US$700 billion will be spent on 5G and new connection devices and technologies globally, according to GSMA. By the end of 2016, more than 5 billion people used handsets with China accounting for more than one-fifth of the user base, GSMA added.
The global drone market is likely to be worth above US$10 billion by 2020, up from about US$6 billion in 2016, according to analysts.
The Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC Shanghai), the Asian event of the world’s biggest telecommunications fair, will be held between June 28 and July 1 in the city.
