Joint fight for Internet security
COUNTRIES including China, the United States and Russia need closer cooperation to fight against Internet threats and crimes, which become global issues with enormous danger, speakers told the China Internet Security Conference yesterday in Beijing.
Users and devices are more vulnerable online to hackers and crimes, because of the popularity of mobile applications, wide variety of devices and cross-border attacks, industry officials said.
By the end of first half, China has more than 700 million Internet users including 656 million moble Internet users, with a penetration rate of 51 percent, which makes Internet security as a national security issue, government officials told the conference.
“The Internet security development is beyond technology in the modern digital age. We need more global collaboration and cooperation between enterprise and governments,” said Zhou Hongyi, chief executive of Qihoo 360, China’s biggest Internet security firm.
Qihoo 360, with over 1.3 billion users globally, has a database of 9.5 billion malicious application and attack records, with a 1.1 million new cases added each day.
“All Internet security issues are international issues to some extent. We must see the necessity of closer global cooperation to fight against hackers with enormous power,” said John McAfee, the founder of McAfee.
Consumers should pay more attention on downloading mobile apps because they give too many unnecessary authority, said McAfee.
