TAIWAN-BASED phone chip designer MediaTek Inc announced yesterday it will invest US$4.8 million to establish a subsidiary in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
It will be MediaTek's fifth subsidiary on the Chinese mainland, following those in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hefei.
The Chengdu facility will focus on research and development for handset chips.
