Motorola seeks to XOOM to the front
MOTOROLA Mobility, which doubled its mobile phone sales in China last year, launched its widely-anticipated tablet computer XOOM in China yesterday as it seeks to expand its business scope and also to boost revenue in the world's biggest telecommunications market.
The United States-based mobile phone company will launch about 20 new products in China this year and triple the number of shops in the domestic market by the end of this year, Bill Ogle, Motorola's senior vice president and chief marketing officer, told Shanghai Daily at a press conference in Hainan yesterday.
The XOOM, which features front and back cameras and runs on Google's Android 3.0 system, will start selling in China in the second quarter.
Besides the XOOM, Motorola launched six new products, including Atrix ME860, a smartphone with dual-core chips yesterday.
"We are going to transform ourselves from a handset maker only to mobile computing hardware and service provider," said Meng Pu, Motorola China president.
