Need for top quality net dramas

CHINA’S Internet industry has developed rapidly but there is still a need for high-quality Internet dramas, industry officials told a forum in Shanghai yesterday.

By the end of June, there were over 565 million online video users in China, said Luo Jianhui, a senior official at the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

“The number (of net dramas) is growing every year but not the quality,” said Chen Xuhua, senior vice president of PPTV.

Yang Xianghua, senior vice president of iQiyi, the country’s top online video platform, also echoed that China needs more high-quality net dramas that require spending of over 1 million yuan (US$147 million), or 3 million yuan. They now account for 23 percent of iQiyi’s dramas this year, up from just 10 percent in 2016.
