New Xiaomi Mi 6 marks focus shift
XIAOMI’S new smartphone Mi 6 marks the company’s focus on the mid-range and high-end segments of the market, and the vendor also plans to open 1,000 stores in China within three years.
The Mi 6, unveiled in Beijing yesterday, features dual cameras and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip — the first Chinese model to be equipped with the chip. The Mi 6 also boasts optical image stabilization technology and 3D glass design.
It will be available on April 28 at a starting price of 2,499 yuan (US$363).
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s chief executive and chairman, said the company plans to open more than 1,000 stores within three years and generate about 70 billion yuan income through the stores within five years, compared with about 50 offline stores in the country now.
Xiaomi missed its global shipment target by 12 percent in 2015, followed by a slide in sales last year.
