Online authors tap demand
CHINA’S online literature sector created more than 1 billion yuan (US$145 million) income for cyber authors in 2016, China Reading said yesterday.
Fiction based on traditional Chinese history, legends and fantasy stories is popular online. Consumers are willing to pay for unique content, which brings income to cyber authors and publishers, said the country’s top online literature firm.
China Reading, with over 300 million users nationwide, has drawn more than 100 top cyber authors who each earned an annual income of above 1 million yuan. In 2016, over 1 billion yuan income was shared with these and other authors.
Cultural similarity helps Chinese publishers gain markets in Japan, South Korea and Singapore, said research firm App Annie.
